Positive Traits

There are a number of traits inherent to the Siberian Husky that, if you are prepared, can make them a wonderful pet. In general, they are one of the most friendly breeds and do not typically display some of the more aggressive traits of some other popular breeds, such as the German Sheppard or Pit Bull. Many also prefer the aesthetic quality of this breed, particularly a wolf-like appearance and blue eyes. Siberian Huskies are also extremely sociable with other dogs. This breed is also popular amongst many owners for exhibiting a high level of energy. They love to run and play. It is a safe bet that you will never be bored when you have one of these animals living in your house.

Cautions

Some of the more problematic traits Siberian Huskies have been well documented. First and foremost, if you have little or no patience for high-energy dogs then this is definitely not the breed for you. They require constant attention and exercise. This is not a breed you can simply tie up in the backyard. They can become easily bored and this can result in highly destructive behaviour. The Siberian Husky is also know as being a highly adept escape artist; if it sees something that catches its interest it will do everything it can to get to it, which also means there is a higher risk of them running away than other breeds. These traits can be particularly strong when they are young and tend to taper off somewhat as they get older, but they never go away completely.

Small Animals

If there is one piece of information you must know before considering this breed, it involves a particular danger with smaller animals, particularly cats. Siberian Huskies have been known to hunt small animals, unless the they has been raised with them. For this reason, you may want to rethink getting this breed if you already have a cat in the family,

Training

Siberian Huskies are also known for being a highly intelligent breed. This fact, however, can work either for or against you during the training process. They learn fast, but this also means that they can also learn to outsmart their owners if you don’t manage to stay one step ahead of them. To overcome this challenge, you must be consistent while demonstrating that you, not the dog, are in charge.
